Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday

Shop News No Comments »
OPEN TODAY FROM 10am until 5pm for MLK Jr. Holiday.     With Martin Luther Kings Jr.’s birthday celebration around the corner, I thought I’d try to find a quote from the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize winner about bicycles.  I failed on that point, but I found that I only had to look half a world away for the right quote.   During our civil rights struggle, a future (1984) Nobel Peace Prize winner, and future (1984) recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr Award for Non-Violence was enjoying bike riding while absorbing the inspiration of MLK’s leadership in preparation for his own leadership role in transforming his own country.

“Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. Teach a man to cycle and he will realize fishing is stupid and boring.”

–Desmond Tutu

Check out Bishop Desmond Tutu’s 2004 interview, and read about how important bicycling was to him growing up.  (BTW – The quote illustrates his sense of humor, as well as his fondness for the bicycle.)

What’s NEW??? The Hiplock!

Uncategorized No Comments »

Come in and try it on!!!     HipLock video

hiplok001From BIKE RADAR:

This chain is made up of 8mm case-hardened steel links wrapped with tough nylon, combined with an ABS-encased 9mm-diameter padlock. Designed to be worn, the nylon outer and padlock buckle form a standard belt.

With a large expanse of Velcro, the lock should fit waist sizes from 20-46in. It’s shaped to fit around your body and there are no sharp edges to dig in. At 1.83kg it isn’t too heavy to carry, and the already-minimal weight is much less noticeable when you’ve belted up.”

From OUTDOOR GEAR LAB:

“U-Locks outperformed the Hiplok V1.50 Chain Lock in security, but only when the power tools came out. This is a solid, well-designed lock has the capability to be the bike commuter’s new favorite thing, which is what earned it our Top Pick for Commuting award.”
